Department of Fair Employment and Housing Offers Sexual Harassment Prevention Training for Employers Seeking to Comply with A.B. 1825
ELK GROVE -- The Department of Fair Employment and Housing ("DFEH"),
the nation's largest state-run civil rights enforcement agency, today announced
that, in partnership with the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce and San Joaquin
County Bar Association, it will be offering Sexual Harassment Prevention Training
on September 21, 2005.
The training is designed to allow employers to comply with A.B. 1825 which took
effect January 1, 2005. Under that new law, employers with 50 or more employees
must provide sexual harassment prevention training to supervisory and managerial
employees before January 1, 2006. The two-hour training must be interactive and
provided by trainers who are knowledgeable about both state and federal laws
prohibiting workplace harassment. Moreover, the training must provide instruction
on how to detect, respond to, and prevent workplace harassment, discrimination,
and/or retaliation through the inclusion of practical examples. The DFEH's training
incorporates videotaped vignettes which serve as the basis for participants to
break into small groups to answer questions about the workplace dilemmas depicted.
The training will take place at the Stockton Chamber of Commerce, 445 West Weber Avenue, Suite 220, Stockton, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25 per participant. However, if two (2) or more participants from the same employer attend, the cost is reduced to $20 each.
DFEH Director Suzanne M. Ambrose said today, "We are very excited to be able to offer this training in order to help Stockton-area employers educate their workforce about sexual harassment, which continues to contribute to the increasing number of complaints received by the DFEH each year, as well as fulfill their legal obligation to train their supervisory staff. We are confident that participants in the training will find it not only instructive, but extremely interesting."
Early registration is strongly recommended, as seating will be limited. Payment should be sent to:
San Joaquin County Bar Association
20 N. Sutter Street, Suite 300
Stockton, Ca 95202
