Melissa Figueroa, Deputy Secretary of Communications

Melissa Figueroa was appointed by Governor Brown as Deputy Secretary of Communications for the State and Consumer Services Agency in September 2011. Ms. Figueroa serves as the advisor to the Secretary on communications and media issues pertaining to the Agency's boards, bureaus, departments and commissions.

Prior to her appointment Ms. Figueroa spent 3 years working as the Press Secretary and Legislative Aide for State Senator Joe Simitian. During her time in the Senate, she served as the point person for the Senator's communications staff in regards to Legislation; she also staffed the Senator on Veterans Affairs and Human Services issues.

Prior to working in the Senate Ms. Figueroa worked as a Consumer/Investigative Producer for the NBC affiliate in Sacramento, and a newscast producer for the NBC affiliate in San Luis Obispo.

Ms. Figueroa earned her bachelor's degree in Journalism from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly, SLO). Ms. Figueroa resides in the Sacramento area with her husband and son.
