Mission: The State and Consumer Services Agency (SCSA) is dedicated to protecting consumers and delivering efficient, cost-effective and responsive services to internal and external State Clients.

California African American Museum (CAAM)

The California African American Museum researches, collects, preserves and
interprets for public enrichment, the history, art and culture of African Americans
with emphasis on California and the western United States.

Established in 1953 by the California Building Standards Law, the California
Building Standards Commission (BSC) is an independent commission within the
State and Consumer Services Agency. Commission members are appointed by the
Governor and confirmed by the State Senate. The BSC is responsible for administering
California's building codes, including adopting, approving, publishing, and
implementing codes and standards.

Science Center (CSC)

The California Science Center is a public-private partnership between the State
of California and the not-for-profit California Science Center Foundation.
Conveniently located in Exposition Park, it is the West Coast's largest hands-on
science center.

The mission of the California Department of Consumer Affairs is to protect
and serve consumers while ensuring a fair and competitive marketplace. DCA
protects and serves consumers by making available information that educates
them about their rights and responsibilities. They help ensure a competent
and fair marketplace by establishing minimum standards of competency in over
100 business and 200 professional categories, including doctors, dentists,
cosmetologists, contractors, and automotive repair shops.

The of the Department of Fair Employment and Housing is to protect the people
of California from unlawful discrimination in employment, housing and public
accommodations, and from the perpetration of acts of hate violence.
Department
of General Services (DGS)

DGS consists of six divisions, 23 operational offices, 4,000 employees and
a budget in excess of half a billion dollars. Its diverse functions include
e-commerce and telecommunications; siting, acquisition, development, leasing,
disposal and management of state properties; architectural approval of local
schools and other state-responsibility buildings; printing services provided
by the second largest government printing plant in the U.S.; procurement of
supplies needed by other state agencies; and maintenance of the vast fleet
of state vehicles. The director serves on half a dozen state boards and commissions.

The Department of Technology Services serves the common technology needs of
Executive Branch agencies and other public entities with accountability to
customers for providing secure services that are responsive to their needs
and represent best value to the State.
Exposition Park
Exposition Park is home to a variety of great museums and attractions, including
the California African American Museum, the Natural History Museum of Los
Angeles County, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the Los Angeles Sports
Arena and the Rose Garden. It's also a neighbor to the University of Southern
Californiaand community gathering place Mercado La Paloma. Events take place
in and around Exposition Park all year.

The Fair Employment and Housing Commission is a quasi-judicial administrative
agency which enforces California civil rights laws regarding discrimination
in employment, housing, and public accommodations; pregnancy disability leave;
family and medical leave; and hate violence. The Commission engages in five
primary activities: administrative adjudication; mediations, regulations; legislation;
and public information and training. The Commission is composed of seven members
appointed by the Governor. Current Commissioners are George Woolverton, Chairman,
Herschel Rosenthal, Vice-Chair, Patrick Adams, Linda Ng, and Brenda St. Hilaire.
Presently, two Commission positions are vacant.
Franchise
Tax Board (FTB)

The Franchise Tax Board is responsible for administering two of California's
major tax programs: Personal Income Tax and the Corporation Tax. The FTB also
has responsibility for administering the Homeowner and Renter Assistance (HRA)
program, and other non-tax programs and delinquent debt collection functions,
including child support debt collections and delinquent vehicle registration
debt collections on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles. In 1999, the
California Legislature gave FTB the additional responsibility for procuring,
developing, and implementing the statewide child support automation development
project.
Office of the Insurance Advisor (OIA)

Office of the Insurance Advisor is located within the State and Consumer Services
Agency. The Office tracks, monitors, analyzes and makes recommendations on
pending legislation affecting various lines of insurance coverage, including
homeowners, automobile, earthquake, life, long-term care, fire and marine.
The Office works in a cooperative fashion with the Department of Insurance
to promote policies that protect insureds while promoting a competitive marketplace
for insurance customers throughout California.
Office of Information Security and Privacy Protection (OISPP)
The California Office of Information Security and Privacy Protection unites consumer privacy protection with the oversight of government’s responsible management of information. OISPP provides services to consumers, recommends practices to business, and provides policy direction, guidance and compliance monitoring to state government.
Seismic Safety Commission (SSC)

The Seismic Safety Commission was established in 1975 to investigate earthquakes,
research quake-related issues and reports, and recommend to the Governor and
Legislature policies and programs needed to reduce earthquake risk. Seventeen
members serve on the commission.

Personnel Board (SPB)

State Personnel Board is a five-member board, created in the state constitution,
charged with adopting civil service rules and regulations. SPB establishes
and maintains civil service job classifications, reviews cases of employee
discipline and provides selection, goal setting, training, bilingual services,
quality assurance and consultation services to state departments and employees.

Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS)

California State Teachers' Retirement System is the largest teachers' retirement
fund in the United States. CalSTRS had a total membership of approximately 795,000 and assets of $169 billion as of September 2007. CalSTRS' primary responsibility
is to provide retirement related benefits and services to teachers in public
schools from kindergarten through community college.

Victims Compensation and Government Claims Board serves the citizens of California
through the Victim Compensation Program by reimbursing eligible crime victims
for certain expenses incurred as the result of a crime, and through the Government
Claims Program by processing all civil claims for money or damages that are
filed against state agencies under the California Tort Claims Act.
