Manolo Platin, of Sacramento, was appointed special assistant and legislative analyst for the Office of the Insurance Advisor in January 2007.  His primary functions at State & Consumer Services Agency include analyzing legislation affecting insurance, probate and workers’ compensation, and assisting the Director with special projects including catastrophe planning and mitigation.

He served as an assistant in Governor Schwarzenegger’s Private Office since 2006.  Mr. Platin previously was an executive fellow in the Governor Schwarzenegger’s Cabinet Office from 2005 to 2006 and a policy consultant for the Vasconcellos Legacy Project in 2005.  He also served as chairman of the Cal State Student Association, representing the 409,000 California State University students from 2004 to 2005. 

Born in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Mr. Platin immigrated to Eureka, California in 1982, where he lived until he graduated from Humboldt State University in 2005.
