Leslie R. Lopez, Deputy Secretary and General Counsel

Leslie R. Lopez was appointed as General Counsel and Deputy Secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency in August 2007. Prior to her appointment Ms. Lopez served for 13 years as a deputy attorney general in the California Department of Justice, Attorney General's Office.

While at the Attorney General's Office, Ms. Lopez was in the Government Law Section, representing California's constitutional officers and executive branch departments in matters pertaining to the functions of state government, including statewide initiatives, the Public Records Act, open meeting laws, state mandated programs, and public contracting laws. Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office, Ms. Lopez was a deputy city attorney for the City of Sacramento from 1990 to 1994. Previously she worked in private practice in San Jose from 1987 to 1990. Ms. Lopez has also served on local government boards and community groups including the City of Sacramento Civil Service Board, and the Student Buddy mentoring program.

Ms. Lopez earned her bachelor's degree from the San Jose State University in 1983 and her Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1987. She is a member of the California State Bar, as well as the United States Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals bars.
