Amanda Fulkerson, deputy secretary for communications, oversees all internal and external communication activities at State and Consumer Services Agency and it's 16 departments. Amanda also serves as a communications advisor and liaison to the Governor's office for the numerous departments, boards and commissions under SCSA.

Prior to her position at the Agency, Amanda served as associate deputy communications director to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and lead the media and stakeholder outreach efforts for his $5.4 billion water bond package while managing a portfolio of five state agency communications activities.

Ms. Fulkerson also served Governor Schwarzenegger's re-election campaign as his regional press secretary. In this position Amanda traveled the state to ensure constant favorable coverage of the Governor and lead bracketing and media efforts against his opponent outside of the capitol press corps.

Prior to her state service, Ms. Fulkerson worked for global public relations firm APCO Worldwide assisting clients with her expertise in media relations and grassroots advocacy. Her client portfolio included issues as diverse as transportation, workers’ compensation and health care ballot proposition campaigns.

Prior to joining APCO, Ms. Fulkerson worked for California’s Department of Water Resources’ Public Affairs office where she handled media relations, drafted copy for publications and represented the department at community outreach events.  She also served as in the press office of Governor Schwarzenegger and for AARP, California, where she wrote press releases, monitored media coverage and organized special events.

Ms. Fulkerson served as a staff reporter for The State Hornet and earned the honor “Best Writer 2004.” She also participated in an Americorps programs - landing her in Newark, New Jersey teaching social studies and American politics to elementary students in some of the nation's most impoverished schools.
 

Ms. Fulkerson graduated with honors from California State University, Sacramento, where she earned a B.A. degree in Public Relations and a minor in Journalism.
